Last Year’s E-mail about Victoria, BC
February 8, 2009 by caroline2311
I’ve always wanted to blog about our trip to Victoria, B.C. but never got to it. As my personal experience of my travel to Victoria with my hubby and kiddo is so beautiful, I think I should put it in my blog site. I can’t really explain how much it meant to me. Luckily, I found these in one of my e-mails to our HS web page in Yahoo Groups. I enjoyed reading it again and again… hope you enjoy reading it too. Dated July 25, 2008 @ 7:13 pm.
Hi Classmates,
We spent our short summer holiday in Victoria, BC and had so much fun. Parang I want to move there. If not only for my hubby’s parents and my son’s education, we will be moving there. It is so beautiful. We stayed in Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Hotel which is right in the heart of Downtown Victoria, just a walk away from Chinatown, and located right in Victoria Harbour.

The people there are very nice and friendly. My bestfriend Nora who lives there said that the people are very honest that even if you loose something like a wallet, it will come back to you intact. My hubby Lee noticed that their road courtesy there is excellent. Aside from that, they follow the speed limit. Cool huh! It is really a safe place to drive. Unlike Cali where you get honked at if you are driving only 65 mph which is the speed limit. I just love the culture. It was like Baguio during our highschool years when it is major frontline news when someone gets killed (coz it doesn’t normally happen). Mike (my bestfriend’s hubby) said the last time that happened was years ago. Wow that is safe!
We spent a lot of time hanging out at the harbour which is absolutely gorgeous! There are tons of free entertainment. We ate at a Japanese Restaurant where Kasuyo (one of our friend’s wife) works. Then in the evening, we ate at a Chinese Restaurant that existed since their dad was a kid. The Chinese waiter has been there everyday for the past 20 years at least, and knows what they normally order. Oooh this totally reminded me of Baguio, where our family would eat Chinese in a restaurant in Session Road. Name forgotten sorry! My memory is failing. But I guess you know which one I mean. The one in front of Cid’s Bookstore. We also went to Beacon Hill, Butchard Gardens, attended a birthday party of a friend’s uncle. We went to Sidney by the Sea. Had Karaoke in Downtown Victoria. We also visited the Was Museum.
Here’s some news that I read, when we arrived there… See attached. Best to view it on Microsoft Office Picture Manager and zoom in to 50%.
Here’s also some bits I learned about Canada that you might find interesting:
- Royal Anthem: “God Save the Queen“
- The have 2 forms of Government: Parliamentary and Monarchy
- The Queen of England (HM Queen Elizabeth II) heads the Monarchy
- The Prime Minister is Stephen Harper
- The face of HM the Queen is imprinted on their notes.
- Victoria, BC was suppose to be part of the USA but some kind of agreement led it to become part of Canada, and Maine which was suppose to be part of Canada became part of the USA. (That is very smart of the Canadians to do that!)
Here’s also a short video clip of our visit to Butchard Gardens… http://perezdetagle.myphotoalbum.com/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album19&id=IMGP1320
I’ll post some pics later. Have fun!
